SAP Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get cleared immediately after the first appointment?
No. DOT regulations require that you complete a treatment or education program first. Only after verified completion can we schedule your follow-up evaluation and submit your clearance.
How long does the SAP process take?
It depends on how quickly you complete your treatment or education plan. Some clients finish within 2–4 weeks; others may take longer depending on program availability and compliance.
Do you report my information to anyone?
Yes. As a DOT-certified SAP, updates are submitted to the FMCSA Clearinghouse, and return-to-duty paperwork is provided to your employer or third-party administrator (TPA) upon completion. Your personal health information is protected and shared only as required by federal law.
Can you help me find treatment or education programs?
Yes. Tailored, accessible referrals for treatment or education options that meet DOT requirements are provided — including affordable or online options when available.
What if I don’t complete the treatment plan?
Your case will remain open, but you won’t be cleared for duty until the required steps are completed. After 60 days of no activity, your case may be closed and a new evaluation and fee may be required.
