My Philosophy

Leadership and Supervision

“Tell me, and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” is a quote from Benjamin Franklin. This quote highlights the core of my teaching philosophy. My role as an educator and facilitator of teaching is to assist in building a unique community in each learning environment I step into. With experiential activities, candid discussions, and vulnerability, I aim to inspire people to think openly and feel safe to explore the learning environment. Whether I am building the curriculum or teaching an established curriculum, I aim to ensure that it is inclusive and representative of the world that we live in by confronting my own biases and connecting with my students to break down barriers.

As a clinician I am an accepting and compassionate helper. I have had the pleasure of helping people from many walks of life. One thing that they had in common was humanity. Sometimes as human being we need a helping hand. “I don’t feel heard” is a sentiment that has been consistently echoed to me as I have provided care over the years. I enjoy being that person that is there to listen and provide support. Some people, particularly those in marginalized communities, are not heard when attempting to access health care, especially mental health care. It is my goal to be a champion of advocacy for accessible, inclusive, and equitable access to healthcare.

As a leader, I leverage my power and positionality to actively advocate for the needs of people in my community and mentor those searching for guidance. I am committed to providing empathetic leadership and creating a safe environment for anyone around me. As I engage with mentees, other leaders, and stakeholders, I value honest communication, flexibility, humility, empathy, and a positive attitude. I also firmly believe that adaptive leadership skills are vital to success and sustainability as a leader. I am a lifelong learner, enabling me to be flexible in my thinking and approaches as a leader.
